About RIIM — Subsurface Utility Engineering | Bahrain & Saudi Arabia

Who We Are

Built on Precision. Driven by Safety.

RIIM Business Administration W.L.L is the GCC's specialist in subsurface utility engineering — delivering the intelligence that keeps infrastructure projects safe, on schedule, and on budget.

Our Story

The RIIM Story

RIIM was founded with a single conviction: that the hidden world beneath our cities deserves the same rigour and precision as the structures built above it. Established in the Kingdom of Bahrain, we set out to bring internationally recognised subsurface utility engineering standards — PAS-128 and ASCE 38-22 — to a region where underground infrastructure was growing faster than the tools to map it.

From our first Ground Penetrating Radar surveys on Bahrain's critical oil and gas infrastructure, we have grown into a multi-disciplinary team serving the region's most demanding clients — from national energy companies to mega-development programmes. Today, RIIM operates across Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, with a track record that spans hundreds of projects and thousands of kilometres of surveyed utility corridor.

Our name reflects our commitment: Reliable Intelligence for Infrastructure Management. Every deliverable we produce — whether a 2D utility record, a 3D BIM model, or a marine geophysical survey — is designed to give engineers, contractors, and asset owners the confidence to make critical decisions.

Mission & Vision

What Drives Us

Mission

To eliminate the risk of undetected underground utilities through world-class subsurface investigation, mapping, and modelling — protecting lives, assets, and project timelines across the GCC.

Vision

To be the most trusted name in subsurface utility engineering in the Middle East, setting the regional benchmark for quality, safety, and technical excellence.

Our Principles

What We Stand For

Safety First

Every survey we conduct reduces the risk of a utility strike. Safety is not a deliverable — it is the reason we exist.

Technical Excellence

We invest in the latest GPR, EPL, and marine geophysics technology, and in the expertise to deploy it with precision.

Integrity

Our reports reflect what is in the ground — not what clients want to hear. Accurate data, honestly presented.

Partnership

We embed ourselves in project teams, speaking the language of engineers, contractors, and asset owners alike.

Regional Expertise

Deep knowledge of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia's regulatory landscape, utility networks, and project environments.

Continuous Improvement

We pursue international accreditation, invest in training, and refine our methods with every project we complete.

Why It Matters

The Case for Subsurface Utility Engineering

Underground utilities are invisible — until they are not. A single undetected pipe or cable can halt a major project, injure workers, and cost millions. SUE is the discipline that makes the invisible visible.

40%

of utility strikes cause serious injury or death

Undetected utilities are a leading cause of construction fatalities worldwide. A single strike can be fatal.

$1.5B+

annual global economic cost of utility damage

Project delays, emergency repairs, legal liability, and regulatory penalties add up to billions every year.

3×

increase in GCC subsurface complexity since 2000

Rapid urbanisation and infrastructure investment have tripled the density of underground utilities in the region.

76%

of utility strikes involve unrecorded or incorrectly mapped assets

Existing utility records are often incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong — making independent SUE investigation essential.

The Four Quality Levels of SUE

The Four Quality Levels of SUE

PAS-128 and ASCE 38-22 define four quality levels of subsurface utility information, from desktop records to physical exposure. RIIM delivers all four.

Quality Level D

Desktop Study

Compilation of existing utility records, drawings, and as-built documentation. The starting point for any SUE programme.

Quality Level C

Site Reconnaissance

Visual survey of surface features — valve boxes, manholes, markers — to supplement and verify desktop records.

Quality Level B

Geophysical Detection

GPR and EPL surveys to detect and map utilities in plan and depth. RIIM's core service — non-destructive, fast, and highly accurate.

RIIM Core Service
Quality Level A

Physical Exposure

Vacuum excavation or hand-dig to physically expose and precisely locate utilities. The highest confidence level.

Approvals & Accreditations

Standards We Uphold

PAS-128 Compliant

UK specification for underground utility detection, verification, and location — the global gold standard for SUE.

ASCE 38-22 Compliant

American Society of Civil Engineers standard for collecting existing subsurface utility data.

BAPCO Approved Vendor

Sole approved vendor for subsurface utility engineering services to Bahrain Petroleum Company.

SEC Approved Vendor

Approved vendor for Saudi Electricity Company — the Kingdom's national power utility.
