Underground Cable Detection in Bahrain & Saudi Arabia

Underground Cable Detection — Bahrain & Saudi Arabia

Underground Cable Detection in Bahrain & Saudi Arabia

RIIM detects buried power cables, telecoms ducts, and fibre optic routes across Bahrain and Saudi Arabia — using electromagnetic pipe and cable locating (EPL) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to trace live and de-energised cables with precision.

What RIIM Delivers in Manama

Striking a buried power cable during excavation is one of the most dangerous and costly incidents on a construction site. RIIM's cable detection service combines electromagnetic locating — which traces live metallic cables with high accuracy — with GPR scanning to detect non-metallic cable ducts and conduits that electromagnetic methods cannot find. The result is a comprehensive cable detection survey that protects workers and keeps projects on schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does electromagnetic cable detection work?

Electromagnetic cable detection (EPL) works by applying a signal to a buried metallic cable using a transmitter connected directly to the cable or inductively coupled above it. A receiver detects the electromagnetic field emitted by the energised cable, allowing the operator to trace its route and measure its depth. RIIM uses both active (signal applied) and passive (detecting existing fields from live cables) electromagnetic methods.

Can RIIM detect non-metallic cable ducts in Bahrain?

Yes. Non-metallic cable ducts (HDPE, PVC) cannot be detected by electromagnetic methods alone. RIIM uses Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to detect non-metallic ducts and conduits. For comprehensive cable detection, RIIM deploys both GPR and electromagnetic locating together, ensuring that both metallic and non-metallic cable infrastructure is identified.

Is RIIM approved to work on SEC and BAPCO cable infrastructure?

Yes. RIIM is an approved contractor for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and BAPCO Energies. Our cable detection teams hold the necessary HSE certifications and contractor approvals to work on SEC and BAPCO electrical infrastructure, including high-voltage cable corridors.

What deliverables does a cable detection survey produce?

A RIIM cable detection survey produces a georeferenced cable route drawing in AutoCAD DWG and PDF format, a survey report documenting detected cables with depth and confidence level, and a digital data file. For complex sites, RIIM can produce a 3D cable model showing the spatial relationship between detected cables and proposed excavation.
