Underground Pipe Detection — Bahrain & Saudi Arabia
Underground Pipe Detection in Bahrain & Saudi Arabia
RIIM detects buried water mains, gas pipes, sewers, process pipelines, and drainage infrastructure across Bahrain and Saudi Arabia — using GPR and electromagnetic locating to map pipe routes, depths, and materials before excavation.
What RIIM Delivers in Manama
Buried pipes represent some of the highest-risk underground hazards on construction sites — a struck gas main or pressurised water main can cause fatalities, major flooding, and project shutdowns. RIIM's pipe detection service uses the right method for each pipe type: electromagnetic locating for metallic pipes (steel, cast iron, copper) and GPR for non-metallic pipes (HDPE, PVC, concrete, clay). The combination ensures comprehensive coverage of all pipe materials present on a site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can RIIM detect plastic and HDPE pipes in Bahrain?
Yes. Plastic and HDPE pipes cannot be detected by electromagnetic methods because they do not conduct electricity. RIIM uses Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to detect non-metallic pipes including HDPE, PVC, concrete, and clay pipes. For sites with a mix of metallic and non-metallic pipes, RIIM deploys both GPR and electromagnetic locating together.
How deep can RIIM detect buried pipes?
Detection depth depends on the pipe material, diameter, soil conditions, and survey method. Electromagnetic locating can detect metallic pipes to depths of 3 to 5 metres in favourable conditions. GPR detection depth varies from 0.5 to 3 metres depending on soil conductivity — saline soils in Bahrain and the Eastern Province limit GPR depth. RIIM's geophysicists select the optimal survey parameters for each site's conditions.
Does RIIM detect gas pipes in Bahrain?
Yes. RIIM detects buried gas pipes in Bahrain using electromagnetic locating for metallic gas mains and GPR for plastic gas pipes. Our teams are trained in the HSE requirements for working near gas infrastructure and hold the necessary certifications for gas utility detection surveys.
What is the difference between pipe detection and a full utility survey?
Pipe detection focuses specifically on locating buried pipes, while a full underground utility survey (to PAS-128 or ASCE 38-22 standard) covers all buried infrastructure including pipes, cables, ducts, and other services. For construction projects, RIIM recommends a full utility survey to ensure no buried service is missed. Pipe detection alone may be appropriate for targeted investigations such as tracing a specific pipe route.
